A RESOLUTION BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PASCO COUNTY, FLORIDA, DECLARING THE MONTH OF JANUARY AS HELP THE HOMELESS MONTH IN PASCO COUNTY.

WHEREAS, the mission of the Help the Homeless Program is to raise awareness of the issue of homelessness and to increase resource organizations working to prevent and end homelessness. The Help the Homeless Program fosters volunteerism in service to homeless people and those at risk of becoming homeless; and
WHEREAS, there are over 754,000 men, women, and children throughout the United States that are living on the streets, staying in shelters, or living in transitional housing. There are over 1,300 people living on the streets or in the woods throughout Pasco County; and
WHEREAS, Journey Village Pasco, which will open in April 2008, will be a transitional housing center and a place to assist those who need a hand up or a chance to get back on their feet. Journey Village Pasco will offer social services and job assistance to help individuals who are homeless transition into mainstream society while providing a safe place to stay; and
WHEREAS, during the month of January, Pasco County residents are encouraged to donate their time and skills, along with monetary donations, to help support local homeless projects.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Pasco County, Florida, in regular session, duly assembled, that said Board hereby declares the month of January as Help the Homeless Month and encourages its citizens to take part to help put an end to homelessness.
